Add up to 6 voices of chorus and shape the sound with the onboard EQ to get the ideal vocal modulation. Vocal doubling has a long history in music production. Next up are your ambience effects. These are the processors that give your vocals a sense of space and dimension in the mix.
The frequency control lets you take it from pristine digital repeats to lo-fi filtered madness at the touch of a dial. TAL Dub-2 is a retro-style delay that models the stylish dirty delays from old-school dub reggae. With powerful controls for saturation and modulation, you can build any analog-style delay you can imagine. Finally, reverb is essential in any vocal mix. This is the effect that simulates the reflections from rigid surfaces that situate a sound in its physical environment.
The quality of the reverberation gives your brain clues about where the sound takes place. For example, a long diffuse reverb might evoke a large concert hall while a short, ringy decay could be a tiled bathroom.
The Dragonfly bundle of free reverb plugins covers all the important styles of reverb for your mix. OrilRiver is another favorite when it comes to free reverb effects. It’s very simplistic, with few knobs and an average design. But thanks to that, you dial it in quickly and create out-of-this-world reverbs that impress. The textured, lush sound of this reverb is beautiful and must be experienced.
Rather than having a grainy or metallic sound, this reverb is truer to realism — but with a twist. This free reverb bundle feature reverbs for all your needs, including hall, plate, room, and a VST for early reflections.
The interface and controls make it extremely easy to use. Choose your reflection type, dial in your size, width and filter it to your liking. Hearing this reverb makes you appreciate its free price point. It sounds ultra-realistic while having a full, rich, and bright characteristic. Your mixes deserve the best free reverb VST plugins. And now you have a great selection of fantastic-sounding plugins to try.
The best part? Unless you want to, as some plugins are donationware, meaning you can pay if you want to. If you can and enjoy the plugins — I urge you to buy these great developers a cup of coffee or two. Picture this. Good question. I use it for a couple of reasons. Sometimes I need to send the whole mix to another bus group to parallel process it, or I can put some weird effects on it and dial with the mix.
So you can do that with the Mix Bus group. Also, I always use a monitoring plugin on my stereo bus, which decreases the volume.
I always keep an eye on my mix bus, and I put my limiter on the stereo out when I need it. So, the groups work like this: the channels routes to bus groups, and the bus groups routes to mix bus.
Then the mix bus goes to stereo out. I realized that I almost always tend to use a compressor on my mix bus to get the most energy from the mix, so I put a compressor on the mixing template.
You have to listen to the song and dial the settings of the compressor to your likings. The best way to do this is to take the threshold all the way down to where it compresses around dB. And change the attack and release parameters there. When you find the best settings for your mix, take the threshold back.
There is no rule for that, but around 3 to 4 dB will be nice. I also use the mix knob, so if you use it like how it is, you will do parallel compression. And we came to the fun part, the effects! I have too many buses ready for most of the situations. Those effects are enough to give me what I need quickly, but I always edit them later.
